These are classical, traditional and modern day herbal formulas that Chinese physicians have developed over the centuries to address commonly encountered conditions. Some of these formulas have a long history (go back to 500BC).
These medicines are in the form of pills for internal use and as creams for external application and so are easy to use. Herbs are regarded as particularly good for nourishing Qi and Blood and therefore strengthening the person, they are often also used to clear conditions that come and go on a regular basis such as premenstrual problems, coughs & colds because they can be stored and used when needed. They are usually prescribed together with acupuncture to help with treatment and are self administered.
